New Therapeutic Strategies In Autosomal Dominant Polycystic Kidney Disease
Dr. Mehmet Rıza ALTIPARMAK,a Dr. Nurhan SEYAHİa
a Nefroloji BD, İstanbul Üniversitesi Cerrahpaşa Tıp Fakültesi, İSTANBUL Autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease is the most common hereditary renal disease. Current therapy focuses on prevention of renal and extra-renal complications and the goal is to reduce mortality and the morbidity of the disease. New and experimental therapies includes the use of statins, vasopressin V2 antagonists, soybean proteins, batimistat (metalloproteinase inhibitor), taxol, piogliatazon, blockage of epidermal growth factor receptor and reduction of pax2 gene. Statins are on clinical use. Renoprotective effects of statins are partly due to reduction of blood LDL levels and partly due to reduced non-steriod isopronel synthesis. Keywords: Polycystic kidney disease, statins, chronic renal failure, mevalonateTurkiye Klinikleri J Int Med Sci 2005, 1(4):40-43
