Dialysis Therapy In Patients With Autosomal Dominant Polycystic Kidney Disease

aSSK Göztepe Eğitim Hastanesi, 75.Yıl Diyaliz ve Organ Nakli Merkezi, İSTANBUL Dialysis therapy is generally indicated later in the course of autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease (ADPKD). Survival of these patients on dialysis is 10-15% longer than patients with other renal diseases. Although mortality is thought to be higher in these patients due to extrarenal manifestations, such as liver cysts, intracranial aneurysms, cardiac valvular defects and diverticulosis, there is not enough data about its natural course. Continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis can also be performed successfully in patients with ADPKD. However, it may cause problems especially in patients with decreased peritoneal surface area and abdominal distention due to severely enlarged kidneys. Therefore, peritoneal dialysis should not be considered as the initial therapy in patients with very large kidneys. Keywords: Dialysis, autosomal dominant polycystic kidney diseaseTurkiye Klinikleri J Int Med Sci 2005, 1(4):78-80
