Dr. Taner ÇAMSARI,a Dr. Serkan YILDIZa
aNefroloji BD, Dokuz Eylül Üniversitesi Tıp Fakültesi, İZMİR Chronic renal failure (CRF) is a sign of critical period in evolution of chronic renal diseases, it is associated with complications and comorbid conditions in progression of diseases. In our country, the number of patients with CRF gradually increase like in the world. All of the organs and systems within the body are effected from CRF. Integrated care including primary care physicians, specialists of internal medicine and nephrology is necessary in order to decrease morbidity and mortality in patients with CRF. Although, high prevalance of sexual problems in patients with CRF are well known by physicians dealing with them, main features of systematic approach to these problems are drawn in recent years. In order to evaluate sexual functions in patients with CRF, medical and psychosocial condition of the patients must be evaluated. Physiological abnormalities, hormonal imbalance, familial properties and relations with partners must be examined. Health personnel dealing with follow up and treatment of patients with CRF seem to be unwilling for examination of sexual functions of their patients. Sexual problems of these patients are extremely important like their medical and physiological problems. If it is given to permission, the patients are enthusiast and desirous for discussing their sexual problems. The prevalance of sexual dysfunction in patients with CRF must be known, sexual function level of them must be evaluated and treated. Keywords: Chronic renal failure, sexual dysfunctionTurkiye Klinikleri J Int Med Sci 2005, 1(21):74-76
