General Overview Of Renal Hypertension
Dr. Mustafa ARICI,a Dr. Şali ÇAĞLARa
aİç Hastalıkları AD Nefroloji BD, Hacettepe Üniversitesi Tıp Fakültesi, ANKARA ‘Renal hypertension’ is classically defined as hypertension associated with kidney disease and is the most common cause of secondary hypertension. However, the association between the kidney and blood pressure has further meaning that extends beyond this classical description. The kidney has a central role in the emergence and persistence of primary hypertension which has no apparent cause. Beyond its ‘villain’ role in the development of hypertension, the kidney also has a role as a ‘victim’ of hypertension, as a result of the dual effects of hypertension with respect to kidney disease. Indeed, hypertension both induces the emergence and increases the progression of kidney damage. Further delineation of the mechanisms that control blood pressure, clarification of the mysterious relations between blood pressure and the kidney, and finally, detailed analysis of states of ‘renal hypertension’ will facilitate advances in preventive and therapeutic approaches for hypertension. Keywords: Hypertension, renal hypertension, renal function curve, progression, renoprotectionTurkiye Klinikleri J Int Med Sci 2005, 1(38):14-17
