Renovascular Hypertension In Childhood
Dr. Umut Selda BAYRAKÇI,a Dr. Ayşın BAKKALOĞLUa
aPediatrik Nefroloji BD, Hacettepe Üniversitesi Tıp Fakültesi, ANKARA Renovascular disease is a common cause of secondary hypertension in childhood. It is a complex disorder, the most common causes of which are fibromuscular dysplasia in children and atherosclerosis in adults. The clinical index of suspicion remains paramount in developing appropriate diagnostic strategies. Although subject to certain limitations, conventional contrast angiography is still considered the gold standard in confirming the diagnosis of renovascular disease. In addition there are a number of available non-invasive tests that can aid in decision-making but no single study is appropriate for every patient. Treatment options include medical, surgical and percutaneous approaches. Diagnostic and therapeutic alternatives should be assessed and used in the light of the individual needs and clinical presentation of each patient. Keywords: Renovascular hypertension, hypertension, childhoodTurkiye Klinikleri J Int Med Sci 2005, 1(38):57-60
