Imaging Modalities Of Renal Parenchymal Diseases

Renal parenchymal diseases consist of various pathologies in a wide spectrum. These diseases cause unilateral orbilateral diffuse or focal changes in the kidneys. Not only do imaging modalities detect these lesions, but they also provide information about renal functions. Additionally, imaging modalities have an important role in the staging of tumors and in the follow-up of treatment. In this review, we present renal parenchymal diseases with their findings on direct radiography of the urinary system, intravenous pyelography, ultrasound, computed tomography, magnetic resonance imaging and radionuclide imaging; discuss the advantageous and complementary properties of these modalities; and give examples of recent technologic developments.Keywords: Kidney diseases, diagnostic imagingTurkiye Klinikleri J Int Med Sci 2005, 1(38):83-93
