They have positive effects in slowing down the progression of chronic renal failure and nephropathy secondary to type 1 and type 2 diabetes mellitus, decreasing proteinuria, preventing progression of renal disease in autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease and decreasing cyst volumes, cyclosporine nephrotoxicity, polycythemia and allograft nephropathy in renal transplant recipients. Most of the relevant studies have been realized with angiotensin converting enzyme inhibitors and angiotensin receptor blockers and showed that they are much more effective than other antihypertensives in this respect. Keywords: Antihypertensive drugs, kidney, renoprotectionTurkiye Klinikleri J Int Med Sci 2005, 1(38):132-136
