Hypertension And ıts Treatment ın Chronic Renal Failure Patients
Dr. Beril AKMAN,a Dr. F. Nurhan ÖZDEMİRa
aNefroloji BD, Başkent Üniversitesi Tıp Fakültesi, ANKARA Hypertension is an important factor for the development and progression of renal diseases. The prevalence of hypertension among chronic renal failure patients is more than 80% in the pre-dialysis period and 75-90% after the initiation of dialysis. Hypertension in dialysis patients has different etiologies, target blood pressure levels and treatment priorities than the normal population and therefore requires special consideration. The ideal blood pressure limit in dialysis patients is less than 150/90 mmHg in the absence of antihypertensive medication. The mean target blood pressure is less than 135/85 mmHg in the daytime period and 120/80 mmHg at night. In this review, diagnostic criteria, pathogenesis, clinical significance and treatment of hypertension in chronic renal failure patients is discussed. Technological improvements render dialysis treatment more effective each day and prolongs the survival of end stage renal failure patients. Therefore, more alternatives are provided for hypertension control in dialysis patients. Maintenance of blood pressure within the targetted limits will improve the quality of life in these patients and reduce cardiovascular mortality and morbidity. Keywords: Hypertension, chronic renal failure, dialysisTurkiye Klinikleri J Int Med Sci 2006, 2(4):63-66
