Pathogenesis Of Glomerulonephritis
Dr. Hakkı ARIKAN,a Dr. Emel AKOĞLUa
aNefroloji BD, Marmara Üniversitesi Tıp Fakültesi, İSTANBUL Despite diabetic nephropathy has become the most common cause of end-stage renal disease Glomerulonephritis therefore remains a common cause of end-stage kidney failure worldwide. There is good evidence for the involvement of immune mechanisms in the majority of cases of human glomerulonephritis. These immune derangements include humoral and cellular immunity. Immune complexes can damage glomerular structures by attracting circulating inflammatory cells and complement cascade activation or activating resident glomerular cells to release vasoactive substances, cytokines, and activators of coagulation. In some cases, genetic predisposition has a role in pathogenesis. However, immunopathogenesis for glomerulonephritis is not completely clarified. Keywords: Glomerulonephritis, pathogenesis, immune system, genetic predispositionTurkiye Klinikleri J Int Med Sci 2006, 2(21):1-9
