Nuclear Medicine Methods In Uronephrologic Diagnosis
Dr. Oktay YAPICIa
aNükleer Tıp AD, Ondokuz Mayıs Üniversitesi Tıp Fakültesi, SAMSUN The imaging procedure in general nuclear medicine is called scintigraphy in which organ specific radiotracers show functioning tissues in different systems. There are different diagnostic nuclear medicine procedures which are performed in specific clinical conditions. The dynamic renal scintigraphy shows the perfusion, concentration and excretion of each kidney. In the diagnosis of renovascular hypertension, angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitor (captopril) scintigraphy should be performed. The transplant renal scintigraphy not only differentiates paranchymal and mechanical complications but is also used to follow up the kidney functions especially in high creatinine levels. The renal cortical scintigrahy can demonstrate pyelonephritic focus or scared tissue and also shows split renal functions. In the diagnosis of vesicoureteral reflux the direct or indirect radionuclide cytography can be used. Glomerular filtration rate can be estimated by using Chromium 51- EDTA or Tc-99m DTPA.Keywords: Uronephrology, scintigraphyTurkiye Klinikleri J Int Med Sci 2006, 2(38):32-38
