Dr. Mehmet KOÇa
aNefroloji BD, Marmara Üniversitesi Tıp Fakültesi, İSTANBUL Malignant nephrosclerosis or malignant hypertension is a result of injury to renal microvascular system that results activation of renin angiotensin system further aggravating hypertension and life threatening target organ damages. If untreated, it results in rapid and irreversible loss of renal function and as well as other target organ damages such as hypertensive encephalopathy, visual loss, congestive heart failure. Scleroderma renal crisis is also one of the major complications of systemic sclerosis simulating almost the the same clinical picture of malignant nephrosclerosis. Emergent treatment of malignant nephrosclerosis and scleroderma renal crises may improve the morbidity and mortality of these patients. Keywords: Hypertension, malignant; scleroderma, systemic; nephrosclerosisTurkiye Klinikleri J Int Med Sci 2007, 3(4):23-29
