Renal Progression In Chronic Tubulointerstitial Nephritis
Dr. Ali Kemal KADİROĞLU,a Dr. M. Emin YILMAZa
aNefroloji BD, Dicle Üniversitesi Tıp Fakültesi, DİYARBAKIR Glomerular damage, caused by many different glomerular disorders such as glomerulonephritis, diabetic nephropathy, and hypertensive nephrosclerosis, when reaches a certain threshold, is consistent, progressive and irreversible. Recent studies emphasized the crucial role of tubulointerstitial injury as a mediator of progression of kidney disease. A common mechanism that leads to renal failure via tubulointerstitial injury is massive proteinuria, and another one is chronic hypoxia in the tubulointerstitium. In addition, interstitial fibrosis also contributes to renal progression by impairing diffusion and suppling of oxygen to tubular cells. Various mecanisms effecting renal progression in chronic tubulointerstisiel nephiritis were discussed in this review. Keywords: Nephritis, interstitial; renal circulationTurkiye Klinikleri J Int Med Sci 2007, 3(21):6-11
