Hyperlipidemia And Kidney
Dr. Fatih DEDE,a Dr. Ali Rıza ODABAŞa
aNefroloji Kliniği, Ankara Numune Eğitim ve Araştırma Hastanesi, ANKARA Experimental and clinical studies have suggested that dyslipidemia which frequently accompanies progressive renal disease contributes to glomerular injury and high cholesterol and triglyceride plasma levels have been demonstrated to be independent risk factors for progression of renal disease in humans. The underlying pathophysiologic mechanisms for the relationship between lipid levels and progression of renal disease are not yet fully understood. In the animal model, lipid-lowering agents seem to ameliorate glomerular damage, preventing glomerulosclerosis and interstitial fibrosis. But, large controlled clinical studies examining the effect of lipid-reduction strategies on progression of renal disease have not been carried out. Keywords: Antilipemic agent, dyslipidemia, progression, renal injuryTurkiye Klinikleri J Int Med Sci 2007, 3(38):52-57
