aİç Hastalıkları ABD, bNefroloji BD, Hacettepe Üniversitesi Tıp Fakültesi, ANKARA Chronic kidney disease is a major public health problem with significant morbidity and mortality. Whatever the cause of kidney disease, taking preventive measures to slow the progression of renal damage will decrease the number of patients reaching end stage renal failure. Many studies showed that renin angiotensin aldosterone system plays an important role in the pathogenesis of chronic kidney disease. Several drug groups have effectively blocked renin angiotensin aldosterone system and in many trials these drugs demonstrated promising results both in diabetic and nondiabetic kidney diseases. This review summarizes the major findings of these trials. Keywords: Kidney diseases; diabetic nephropathies; renin-angiotensin system; proteinuria; hypertensionTurkiye Klinikleri J Int Med Sci 2007, 3(38):62-68
