Drug Nephrotoxicity And Its Prevention

Nephrotoxicity is defined as toxic effect of both toxic chemicals and medications on kidneys. Nephrotoxic effects of various medications become apparent when used in individuals with reduced renal function. Nephrotoxicity types and prevention strategies is discussed in this article. Avoiding drugs and interventions which are potentially nephrotoxic, reducing the dosage when needed and providing enough hydration, especially in individuals with underlying renal disease is the most important strategy in prevention of nephrotoxiciy.Keywords: Kidney failure, renal ınsufficiency, acuteTurkiye Klinikleri J Int Med Sci 2007, 3(38):69-76
