Prevention Of Renal Involvement In Systemic Diseases

Kidney is involved in a number of systemic diseases. In most of these conditions an effective treatment of the primary disease will decrease the risk of kidney involvement. However, ther eis one condition where kidney disease can be actually prevented by the use of a cheap drug: the use of coclchicine in Familial Mediterranean Fever (FMF) has been shown to protect the kidney from secondary amyloidosis Problems enfaced in the management of FMF will be discussed.Keywords: Familial mediterranean fever, amyloidosisTurkiye Klinikleri J Int Med Sci 2007, 3(38):77-79
