aÇocuk Nefrolojisi BD, Gazi Üniversitesi Tıp Fakültesi, ANKARA Recurrent urine infection is common, with the majority of recurrences occurring in the first 12 months after a primary infection. Children with recurrent urine infection may be at increased risk of renal parenchymal scarring, which may lead to hypertension, impaired renal function. Recurrent infection and renal tract abnormalities, of which vesicoureteric reflux (VUR) is the most common, have been implicated in the process of renal scarring. Treatment of recurrent urine infection and VUR are based on the clinical and laboratory parameters of the child, the patient’s age groube and patient complians. Consequently, most current treatment strategies aim to prevent new renal injury by keeping children with an initial infection and VUR. The efficacy of prescribing long-term prophylactic antibiotics for children with urine infection and VUR. It has been suggested that there is too much emphasis on VUR or recurrent urine infection with inappropriate use of prophylaxis for all children with VUR and that the focus should be on renal parenchymal injury or scarring rather than on VUR.Keywords: Recurrent, urinary tract ınfection, vesicoureteric reflux, treatment, preventionTurkiye Klinikleri J Int Med Sci 2007, 3(38):80-87
